How to care

Caring tips for your WAIDA horse halter

The horse halters have been tested for several months on different horses.

The combination of our knots are strong, withstand the horse’s strength and are resistant to pulling.

In terms of durability, they can be used on your horse every day. However, we recommend to reduce their use, because they will last longer.

Because the material is cotton, it will eventually sag by several centimetres.

Our models are machine washable but we recommend washing them by hand, and they will shrink a little after washing, returning to their original size. (See photos on how to wash our horse halters).

We recommend storing the horse halter in a closed place where it will not be affected by the weather and in a closed box or bag, where it will not get dusty.

How to clean your WAIDA horse halter

Of course it’s inevitable that your horse halter will get dirty during use. Proper care helps to maximise the life of your WAIDA halter.

As the halter is made of pure cotton yarn, we recommend  that you do not get it very dirty and we suggest  the delicates wash cycle with cool water in your washing machine or a gentle hand washing.

On this page you will find instructions on how best to proceed so that you can enjoy your WAIDA halter for a long time, remembering that our Waider Halters are a beauty accessory for special days and occasions but not a daily consumer product.

For cleaning, you need cold or lukewarm water and some mild detergent.

Place the WAIDA horse halter in the detergent solution and let it soak for 20-40 minutes. Make sure that all parts are completely covered by the water.

After 20-40 minutes you can start cleaning. Do not rub the cotton. Just move it in the water. You can use a soft brush. The bristles of the brush should be as soft as possible. Bristles that are too hard can roughen the yarn. Gently move the brush over the dirty areas. Do not press too hard so as not to damage the fibres.

After cleaning with the brush, rinse the halter with clean water until it is free of detergent.
Wrap the halter in a clean, dry towel and wring it out. Then put it down to dry in a shady place (photo below). Direct sunlight is aggressive for all textiles and can attack the colours and make the material brittle.

When using the washing machine, always use the hand wash cycle.

Make sure you wash with cold water, if possible below 30 degrees.

Put the halter in the cloth bag provided and close it tightly. It would help to have other, perhaps soft and durable linen such as towels to wash with it. Wash the halters only with the same colour of laundry.

In order for the halter to maintain its beautiful shape pull hard on each piece and stretch them a little while it is still damp.
Press the halter as flat as possible on a towel and let it dry.  When the halter has dried repeat the previous step from the photo above.
If you have a WAIDA halter with pom-poms, they will appear a bit messy after washing and drying. You can bring the strings back into shape with a simple comb.
After combing, the threads of the pom-pom may be uneven in length. You can easily correct this with scissors.
Ready! Your halter is now clean again and we hope that you and your horse will enjoy it for a long time.
